What is the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS)

On 7 June 2023, the Scottish Government Minister for Green Skills, Circular Economy and Biodiversity announced that Scotland’s Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) will be delayed until at least October 2025.

Plans for a deposit return scheme for Northern Ireland were subject to a consultation which closed in June 2021. A likely date for introduction is late in 2027.
